The Canadian immigration is going to take a turn from the month of October because of two major events. The first event is the new mandate letter, which is written by the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Marco Mendicino, the immigration minister. The second event would be Canada’s Immigration plan from 2021-2023. It will identify the targets of the immigration department for the next three years.
The new mandate letter
Canada’s new immigration priorities were discussed and defined during the speech from the throne in the parliament on September 23rd. The speech highlighted the goals set by the Canadian government to maintain its competitive economic standing by welcoming more immigrants.
The new mandate letter issued by Trudeau will define the priorities for new immigrants for the immigration department and Mendicino to follow.
Covid-19 has delayed many priorities that were set by the last years mandate letter. Many goals have been delayed, such as Eliminating citizenship application fees and Launching Municipal nominee program.
The new mandate letter is expected to emphasize heavily on the coronavirus. New policies will be introduced to adapt the situation at hand.
Immigration plan 2021-2023
Throughout the pandemic, the immigration minister has constantly showed his commitment towards the immigration. It can be seen as the Express entry draws were conducted throughout the pandemic and many individuals received invitations to apply for PR.
The most important question to identify would be ‘How will this pandemic will impact the immigration levels?’
It is expected that the government of Canada would continue to take high levels of immigrants as they need immigrants to support their economy. The speech in the parliament also had high emphasis on the return to high immigrants.
There will be more clarity as the combination of immigration level plan 2021-2023 and the new mandate letter will make things more clear on how the Canadian government is going to use the policies to bring the immigration system to return to normal.
