What is it basically?

The H-1B visa is a type of visa in the United States that allows skilled foreign workers to work temporarily in jobs that require specialized knowledge. It is meant for people with at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a specific field. U.S. companies can sponsor these foreign workers for jobs that are hard to fill with qualified Americans.
What does it have to do with Canada?

To put Canada as a leader in innovation, the government is looking to go for global opportunities and to support the next generation. For a better future/ success they want their immigration tools to match their industries. This program was a temporary program that is now closed due to its capacity limit of 10,000 applications. 

Skilled workers, especially IT, are the backbone for Canada’s Innovative Ecosystem.

Making it easier for certain H-1B Visa holders to get open work permits in Canada that will help the country’s economy grow. This way: Employers can hire skilled workers that have experience and will benefit Canada’s progress and development.

What are its Eligibility Requirements?

Part 1

1. Submitted work permit under section 200, duration is maximum 3 years.
   
   
2. Resided in the U.S at the time the work permit was submitted.
   
   
3. Holds an H-1B Visa issued by the U.S that was valid at the time the work permit was submitted.
   
   
4. Submit it using electronic means or any other means available/ specified by the minister for that purpose if the foreign national is unable to meet the requirements to make/ submit the documents or provide a signature or information using electronic means.
   
   
5. Submitted the Visa, or a copy using electronic means etc. provided by the minister for that purpose if the foreign national is unable to meet the requirements to submit the document using electronic means:  OR. 

Part 2

1. Is a family member of a foreign national who applied and has been found to meet the conditions.
   
   
2. Submitted work permit under section 200. Duration maximum 3 years.
   
   
3. Resided in the U.S at the time the work permit was submitted.
   
   
4. Submit the work permit using electronic means or any other means available/ specified by the minister for that purpose if the foreign national is unable to meet the requirements to submit any document or provide a signature or information using electronic means.
   What are the other admissibility and selection criteria?
   Foreign nationals who qualify under this new policy still need to meet all the other rules and requirements set by the law. The policy might exempt them from certain criteria, but they must still fulfill all the other conditions to be eligible.
