Canada is opening its doors wider with the new PTE Core test.
Canada Immigration has changed the expected time for accepting the Pearson Test of English Core (PTE Core) for immigration. It was initially supposed to happen by late 2023, but now it’s expected to happen in early 2024.
But now, the expected time for this has shifted to early 2024. Remember, only Pearson Canada, Inc. is authorized to conduct the PTE Core test.
Sometimes people mix up PTE Core with the PTE Academic test for SDS study permits, but PTE Core is specifically for permanent residency and economic immigration programs.
Don’t worry, though โ PTE Academic is still valid for SDS study visas and permits since August 10, 2023, along with three other new English proficiency tests.
EXPECTED PTE CORE TEST SCORE CLB-LEVEL EQUIVALENCY.
The CLB levels are like English skill levels for immigrating to Canada. Here are the IELTS General CLB levels you need for Canadian immigration:

To be eligible for the FSWP, you need at least six bands in each IELTS module. If you’re looking at PTE Core, a score of 46 or higher might be required, depending on how it compares to IELTS scores.
For the IELTS score of 8 in listening and 7 in the other modules (8-7-7), the PTE equivalent could be 84 in listening and 66 in the other skills.
Similarly, if you’re aiming for CLB level 5 for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) Express Entry, you’d need 18 or above in reading and 29 or above in the other modules for a potential PTE equivalent score.

WHAT ARE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS APPROVED FOR CANADIAN IMMIGRATION.
The accepted English tests for Canadian immigration are the IELTS General Training and the CELPIP General Test. IRCC is expected to approve the Pearson Test of English Core (PTE Core) starting in early 2024.
